Inauguration of the 2014/2015 Session: Theology Department Academic Award Presentations

AN ADDRESS PRESENTED BY REV. FR. DR CLEMENT OBASI, THE HEAD OF DEPARTMENT OF THEOLOGY, BIGARD MEMORIAL SEMINARY, ENUGU, ON THE OCCASION OF THE INAUGURATION OF THE 2014/2015 ACADEMIC AND FORMATION YEAR, THIS 27TH DAY OF OCTOBER, 2014.

Your Excellency, Most Rev. Prof. Godfrey Onah,

The Father Rector, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Ukoro T. Igwe,

Revered Formators,

My dear Seminarians.

Blessed be the Holy and Undivided Trinity both now and forever. Amen.

May I on behalf of the Theology Department welcome you all to the Solemn Inauguration of 2014/2015 Academic/Formation Year. I join others in welcoming in a very special way my Father Bishop, and thank him immensely for finding time to be with us. My Lord, your presence here today will serve as a boost for us this Academic/Formation Year.

Every good thing comes from God and belongs to Him. This is why we thank Him for being with us through the previous Academic Year. We equally express our sincere appreciation to the Rector, all the formators and external lecturers in the Theology Department for their unalloyed effort and support in maintaining the academic standard and excellence for which Bigard is known.

The yearly inauguration of the Academic Year has always been a memorable event in the seminary calendar. It is a day when academic excellence is rewarded and encouraged. Thus, a day of stock-taking. A day which affords us the opportunity to review our performances in the last Academic Year, and at the same time consider the challenges and prospects of the new  Academic/Formation Year.

As we begin this year, our expectations are high. This is because we have started on a good note with the theme of our colloqium: Towards a Responsible Use of ICT in the Seminary Formation in Bigard Today. We expect that the unimaginable range of  tools and opportunity for integral formation offered by ICT may be well utilized for a better academic performance this year.

May I equally use this opportunity to welcome back to the Department Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Donatus Ogudo who just came back from sabbatical leave. In the same vein, I wish to welcome Mr. Okechukwu Gerald who is joining us for the first time in the department. With trust in God and in our sincere effort, we are set for this Academic Year hoping to arrive at our expectations.

Thus far,  Let me now present to you the students that distinguished themselves academically in the last academic year, as it pertains to our department.
