The Epiphany of Deacons is a customary celebration in Bigard Memorial Seminary, Enugu. It is an anticipated celebration in the seminary when the newly ordained deacons for the year are formally presented to the seminary family. Indeed, it is a joyful celebration.
The events to mark this celebration for the year 2021 started with a Football Match between the deacons and non-deacons in final year class of Theology department. The match was played in the seminary’s field on Saturday 15th January, 2021. It ended 2:1 in favour of the non deacons.
The second aspect of the event began with the Mass of Thanksgiving at the seminary’s main chapel. The Mass began around 7:45am with Fr. Justin Utazi, the Dean of Students’ Affairs I as the principal celebrant. Also present at the Mass was another formator and lecturer, Rev. Fr. Dr Kingsley Anagolu. In his homily, Fr Justin drew the attention of all to a reawakening of the proper values of our vocations. He pointed out from the first reading of the day the model of Samuel and Eli. He reminds us of the need to be attentive to the voice of the Lord, and to properly consult our formators in the journey of our discernment of our vocations. The Mass ended around 9:30 am.
The last phase of the celebration began with the Solemn procession at the vesper. It started at 6pm in the Seminary’s chapel and ended around 7:20pm. At the end of the vespers, the seminarians went for a sumptuous dinner prepared for them courtesy of the Final Year Students of Theology. It was indeed a conviviality that is memorable.IMG_2769.jpg
